President's Message

Chanukah is now over and I hope that everyone had a great holiday. Many thanks to Maxine Snyder and her helpers for conducting a wonderful Chanukah Bazaar at which we were able to buy items from our Gift Shop for Chanukah and year-round use. Kol Shalom had a fantastic Chanukah dinner, chaired by Judy Salob, with a great deal of help from the Daniel Rothman Religious School and its Director, Sue Westenburger.  A delicious meal, catered by our own Carl Charapp, was enjoyed by the 100 attendees of the dinner. Chanukah games and songs were lead by Sue Westenburger and the Religious School teachers. Many thanks to all those who helped to make this dinner a success.

We have a very busy schedule in the upcoming months. January 23-24 is the Sisterhood Shabbat weekend wherein members of the Sisterhood will be leading services. There will be a Shabbat Dinner on Friday evening, January 23, and the weekend will be culminated by a Lunch and Learn after Shabbat morning services on January 24. The Lunch and Learn will be led by Rabbi Daniella Kolodny, Jewish Chaplain at the  U.S. Naval Academy. Please RSVP to Mary at the Synagogue office for the Dinner and Lunch and Learn. On Sunday, March 1, we will have a Klezmer Concert, featuring the Lox and Vodka Klezmer Band. This concert will be underwritten by the Herbert and Ronnie Kleiman Endowment Fund. Further information to follow. On Saturday night, March 7, we will have a Passover Wine & Cheese Tasting Party. This event is sponsored by the Sisterhood and will give us an opportunity to sample some exceptional Passover wines in addition to the old standard heavy Malaga Passover wine. This is a fundraising event as we will be able to purchase these wines for use at Passover with a percentage of the sales going to the Sisterhood.

A special thank you to Hannah Kaufman and her band of bakers for providing freshly baked pastries from our very own kitchen for Shabbat onegs. The Shoppers’ supermarket on Solomons Island Road is now carrying kosher meat and chicken. Please buy their kosher products often so that Shoppers’ will continue to offer these kosher products.

Please plan on attending our 5 upcoming events and supporting the efforts of your Congregation. Looking forward to seeing you.

Howard Salob
