At this time of the year, as this article is being written, we see and sing about the lights of Hanukkah. At Daniel Rothman Religious School, we have several shining lights that shine brightly all year long, but we think about them especially at this time of the year. One of our brightest lights is Laura Kleiman. Laura works tirelessly on special events for DRRS all through the year. She is here for every event, plans and attends Education Committee meetings as well as attending synagogue board meetings. She lives and breathes DRRS and we are very grateful for her brightly shining light.

Another  group of our sparkling lights belongs to the teachers of DRRS. Without their efforts and ideas, we would not have our school.  Their light brings love, caring, sharing, and learning experiences to all of our children, every day of the year.

There is another group whose lights guide the way for our children. That light comes from our DRRS parents. This dedicated group not only cares for our students but makes it possible for our students to arrive at school on time and to be ready to work.

Without the light of two special people, DRRS would always be in the dark. The first is our synagogue secretary, Mary Fortin. Mary sends home countless e-mails reminding you of school events and fields calls about the school and school events. She is the light that shines every day at Kol Shalom which makes her a very special light. Our last light is the light that Rabbi Pohl shines on all of us, teachers and students alike. His powerful light is our beacon that leads us all home. He is committed to our synagogue, our school, our children, and quality Jewish education for everyone.

Actually, we at DRRS have an entire Hanukiah of lights that shine by and for us everyday of the year. We stop and think of our special lights at the time of the Festival of Lights but they are here quietly shining down on us throughout the year. We are especially grateful for this time of year so that we can celebrate the miracle of Hanukkah and the miracle of DRRS!

We hope that every family has a wonderful festival of lights and is able to enjoy the slower pace of our winter break.

When we get back to school in January, many exciting things are already planned. We need your help for two of them. We will again be going to Sunrise assisted living three times this year. If you have any small motel-size toiletries that you could donate, we will be collecting them in the box in the foyer. We also need your help for a special Tu B'shevat art project. We are collecting wrapping paper, paper towel and bathroom tissue rolls for this special project. There is a box outside of the art room where you can drop off your empty paper rolls.

There are many events coming up at DRRS, so please check your emails and the bi-montly Ma Tovu Moments to keep you up to date on our activities. As always, if you know of a family who would like to learn more about Daniel Rothman Religious School, please have them email me at educationdir@gmail.com or call Kol Shalom at 410-266-6006.

We hope that everyone will enjoy the winter time vacation and hope to see you all in January.

B'shalom,
